Planning and realization of buildings within hot-humid regions (tropical climate) can be considered as challenging. Amongst the enumerous aspects to be considered, climatic and socio-cultural boundary conditions need to be considered, as well as technical and organisatorial constraints. Moreover, the specific needs of the adressed user groups (the later occupants of a planned buildings) require special attention.
This module offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary introduction to technical, socio-cultural, and proceudral aspects of this domain. As such, the presented contents are meant to enable students to consider the special settings of planning in a foreign region with different boundary conditions of manifold character. Specifically, the Indonesian archipelo will be considered. This region is charcterized by cultural diversity, rich and sensitive biodiversity, immanent danger of natural disasters, and its' steep and split-to-many-islands topography. Needless to say, these boundary conditions have a strong impact on planning and building processes. Moreover, the region is considered to be one of the regions of the world that will be severly affected by climate change.
In a first step, students will be equipped with in-depth introduction to different basics. Subsequently, the complex nature of planning and building provesses in Indonesia will be explored under consideration of technical and socio-cultural aspects.
The modul is embedded in ongoing research activities at the TU Wien. Thus, lectures by experts of different backgrounds will be held, as well as the content and tasks will be based on a rich pool of already collected data and information. Utilizing state-of-the-art technolgies, students will work on concepts for building planning and conduct approaches toward (potential) realization of planned objects.
+++ All lectures of the modul are held in english language +++
The modul consists of
Active participation is of highest importance, as this is required to reach the teaching goals of the modul.
For grading, written and oral tests/exams will be conducted, students will be asked to work on deliverables (e.g. scientific reports), and continuting progress presentation will take place.
Grundlegende Erfahrung im wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten, gute Kenntnisse der englischen Sprache, Motivation sich intensiv mit der Thematik auseinanderzusetzen.
This module offers insight to collected knowledge in a matter of increasing importance. Moreover, interested stduents might consider to conduct master-thesis work related to the content of the modul.
