The secret promise of algorithmic planning is that even complex buildings can be erected with a single click, by use of rules which make subjective judgedement unnecessary. This is, of course, utopian.
The design studio „instant hospitals“, indulges in that very appetite – knowing that we will fail at some point. But at which point? This is exactly the exercise that we want to conduct. Building on the state of the art in algorithmic planning of complex buildings, we will dive into the matter of trying to erect complex buildings with one click.
We will learn
- what Generative Design is
- how we can turn our ideas into "generative" / "parametric" models by using algorithms
- how one can structure a complex building systematically into a set of sub-problems which one can approach in a step-by-step manner, using relevant scientific literature as a guidance
- the focus is on rule-based design and not on programming (this is optional, on a voluntary basis)
