259.326 Structural Efficiency in Nature and Engineering
This course is in all assigned curricula part of the STEOP.
This course is in at least 1 assigned curriculum part of the STEOP.

2019W, VO, 2.0h, 2.0EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 2.0
  • Type: VO Lecture

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand principles existent in the natural world and to adapt them for their use in structural and construction systems in the frame of architectural projects.

Subject of course

[DETAILS] [TERMINE] [INFORMATIONEN]

Adaptations following the theory of evolution allow that the nature is able to developt and continuosly optimize its structures.

Many aspects from our environment can be used by human beings as example or inspiration for technical developments.

Depending on the objectives and/or use expected, many useful natural principles can be extracted, adapted and applied.

Different aspects of bionics, concepts and mechanisms and their use in built examples will be used for improving the comprehension of important design decisions in relation to structural systems. For this the analysis of an example will be carried out as an individual exercise. In order to complement and expand the gained knowledge, some complementary exercises will be offered ("Bionics" and/or "Cupola")

Module core subjects:
259.327 Architektur und Tragwerk
259.329 Konstruieren und realisieren von komplexen Tragwerken
259.328 EDV-gestützte Tragwerksplanung
259.326 Effizienz von Tragwerken in Natur und Technik
259.325 Tragwerke in der Konstruktionsgeschichte

Module complementary subjects:
259.330 Sanierung und Veränderung bestehender Tragkonstruktionen
259.333 Tragwerksentwicklung am Modell

First compulsory appointment: "Introduction Module & Lecture Bionics in the Architecture" begins on 9.10.2019 at 10:00  in Projektraum 15.
