Aim of course

Historical development of structures related to material, technology and building type. The influence of eminent constructors (engineers-architects) will be highlighted as well as the historical development of prefabrication.

Subject of course

Lectures on the historical development of building structures related to the dominant construction material: - heavy construction: stone, brick, clay, concrete (vaulting, domes, shells) - skeletal and light weight construction: timber, iron and steel, glass, membranes (truss, grid, suspension structure, tent and pneumatic) - constructors (f.i. Nervi, Candela, Isler, Suchov, Otto and others) - building types: bridges, towers, halls, multistorey construction and others
