Die Lehrveranstaltung wir in englischer Sprache abgehalten.
Producing and editing film is about movement, choreography, the play of light, color, and graphics. And beyond all that, it's all about telling a story. In this course, students will learn the art and craft of shooting and editing videos. The course explores techniques that can be applied in a range of non-linear editing programs. But the main focus is not just on developing software skills; it's on exploring the magic behind the moving pictures.
Challenging exercises and hands-on learning help the students to explore how to apply time-honored principles of film editing using today's digital technology.
The goal of this course is to place the students in a real-world editing situation and provide a sample of what the field has to offer. This experience is invaluable, offering each student both a background in film editing and an opportunity to test the waters of the film world. By the time the class finishes, they will have the practical experience and artistic overview necessary to break in to the field.
Students are exposed to foundation concepts in non-linear video modification, film direction, and digital sound editing. They develop a basic proficiency with the tools and techniques available in standard digital video editing programs.
They learn how to script, shoot, capture, edit, and output short video projects, organize footage and modify it into a coherent sequence, set up short video projects and shoot them using a variety of appropriate camera angles, shots, and framing.
After shooting, the students edit a video sequence to synchronize it to a musical soundtrack or dialog, apply a variety of techniques for expanding or compressing the perception of time in a video sequence, add title sequences to a digital video and animate the sequences and perform basic production checks and output video in common formats. The work also includes applying basic techniques for mixing a soundtrack incorporating the human voice, ambient noise, sound effects, and music.
By the beginning of the class, all students need an Archlab-Accout. Sign up at: www.archlab.tuwien.ac.at
Attending the first class is mandatory. Students that fail to come to the first class will be removed from the list.
