Aim of course

Understanding of the principles of scientific research.

Subject of course

Research principles, methods, and design are introduced. An overview of the research paradigms in natural sciences, engineering, design science, and social sciences is provided. Special instances of research designs pertaining to the building domain are presented.

It is strongly recommended to use the main examination possibility, This exam will be in written form. Other exam possibilities will only be arranged on demand, and can - depending on the number of students taking the exam - be held in oral, written or combined modes.

Registration modalities

Please register (easy communication, automated access to Tuwel-courses of registered lectures, ...). Email-Communication with lecturers only via lecture2593@tuwien.ac.at.

Registration is possible for Students of Building Science.

Students that applied successfully for Master Architecture's MODUL Advanced Building Physics will be automatically registered for the course (after end of application phase for Modules)

Others, who are interested in particiapation can write their interest to lecture2593@tuwien.ac.at, or simply visit the first unit. However, participation is only possible if enough ressources are free.

IMPORTANT: A registration for the course is not a registration for the exam. The exam registration has to be conducted specifically and in time for the corresponding exam date.

It is highly recommended to attend the course meetings, as the relevant content for the exam will be taught extensively (and more detailed than in the lecture notes).
