Basic knowledge of research methods and scholarly writing in architecture:
The aim of the lecture series method is to acquaint architectural students with the concept of research. For the great majority of the listeners this will be the first occasion when the principles, values, or methods of research are explicitly discussed. Many of the students will lack background knowledge and be undecided about the kind of research they might conduct later in the context of the “Wahlseminar”. Hence, the course offers one part with basic introduction to scientific research in Architecture and a second part with introduction to various different approaches to research, indicating both the wide range of disciplines represented in the faculty and the variety of positions within each discipline.
After a general introduction to the theme, this lecture series presents different examples of academic research done at our faculty of Architecture. Students will be introduced to a number of different approaches to scholarly research and writing.

Methods in scientific research
Writing a scientific paper: orientation within a discourse, developing a research topic, building a research question, developing a structure for the paper, working with references, quoting, and library research.

b) Lectures on research projects at our faculty (60 min lecture + 15 min discussion):

Many lecture powerpoints will be provided via TUWEL.
Many lectures will be recorded on video an offered via TU lecture tube.
You need to register for the lecture in TISS in order to get access to this e-learning resources on TUWEL.
You need to visit the TUWEL course at least once - to be registered there and to (technically) receive your grade.
A reader to the lecture is available:
It offers additional material to the lecture and focuses on students with deeper interest in the lectures subjects. Hence it does in no way replace participation in the lectures. Available at the department ATTP.
no-show: if you do not appear to an exam although you are registered, you will be blocked from undertaking the subsequent exam date.
