After successful completion of the course, students are able to develop the skills necessary to strategically set information goals before construction, considering onsite measurements and stakeholder interests. They will gain an understanding of various methodologies for creating and processing data to generate new information sets, exploring how data is managed and formatted for readable and transferable outputs. Additionally, students will learn to apply data to design intent, critically assessing the effectiveness of different data sets. The course emphasises the identification of limitations in simulated data and simulations, recognizing their potential for creating misleading information. Furthermore, students will be proficient in utilising Rhino and Grasshopper to import and analyse data.
The course delves into various methodologies for collecting and processing data, enabling students to generate new information sets and understand how data is formatted for readability and transferability. Furthermore, students will learn to apply data to design intent, gaining the ability to critically assess the effectiveness of different data sets. The course places a significant emphasis on identifying limitations in simulated data and simulations, ensuring students recognize their potential to create misleading information. In addition, students will become proficient in utilising Rhino and Grasshopper, mastering the tools to import and analyse data effectively. This course provides a solid foundation for students to navigate the intricate landscape of data-driven architecture, equipping them with practical skills and insights essential for success in the field.
The course will take place on Thursdays from 09:00, with the first session on Thursday, March 7th 2024.

The course consists of lectures, tutorials and exercises. The practical acquisition of the contents will be made via homework tasks and corresponding deliverables. In the lessons, students will learn why it is important to understand the data when designing buildings. During exercise sessions, students will get hands-on help in collecting and analysing specific data. The combination of lessons, practice, and assignments is designed to give a well-rounded learning experience. It will teach students how to use data effectively in real architectural work.
Evaluation of exercises, presentations and submitted reports.
It is expected that the students possess fluency in architectural design principles and the tools commonly used in the field of architecture.
