Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the characteristics of current solutions of advanced healthcare architecture. Furthermore, students will be able to recognize the needs of this domain when it comes to architectural design and the technology and science that supports design.

Subject of course

The series of lectures will introduce students to the basics of designing healthcare facilities with advanced architectural and technological features. Students will learn methods used in designing spaces that promote human well-being. Landmark projects (gallery of patterns) will be analysed from the aspect of their advanced functionalities reinforced by technology and design aspects that contribute to well-being. Furthermore, lectures will deliver fundamentals on the role of Evidence-based design and the application of sensors in healthcare design solutions. Simulations and BIM/digital twin technology applications in healthcare facility design will be presented. Finally, students will be equipped with person-centred research techniques such as observation, interviews, and surveys, which they can utilise to understand patients' needs and experiences better. Through a set of mentioned topics, students will learn how to use selected methods in supporting future design projects.
