Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 2.5
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise
  • Format: Hybrid

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to identify and utilise algorithmic processes commonly used in data-driven design processes. Widely used parametric design methods will be presented in the course. Students will learn how to implement algorithmic design processes with an example of simple building geometry and an exemplary building facade.

Topics:

  • Introduction to algorithmic design approaches in architecture
  • Examples of algorithmic methods to support architectural designers
  • Role of optimisation algorithms in architectural design

Subject of course

The course will provide fundamental knowledge of algorithmic design. Lectures and exercises will focus on the introduction to algorithmic design and examples of algorithmic processes in Grasshopper, such as generative algorithm, optimization algorithm etc.

Teaching methods

Content will be delivered through lectures, discussions, in-class hand-on work and homework assignments. The performance assessment is carried out in written and oral form.

Mode of examination

Immanent
