After successful completion of the course, students are able to recognise and name basic design methods. They are able to analyse the essential qualities of an object, a three-dimensional form or a material, they are able to derive solutions for their own creative work. Their perception is sharpened after participation in the course and their ability to transfer observations into creative concepts is sensitized. They learn to productively use and steer the process-like development of a form and its characteristics in artistic, technical, material and conceptual respects.

The lecture gives a comprehensive insight into various topics of three-dimensional design. General design methods and questions of visual perception are discussed and enhanced by relevant examples from art, design and architecture. Basic manufacturing methods, material-related procedures and model making techniques are presented.

The lecture also accompanies the Übung Dreidimensionales Gestalten and deals in detail with the topic of the semester programme.
