After successful completion of the course, students are able to analyse the architectural history of the 19th and 20th centuries on the basis of an overview of important exponents, buildings, currents and problems in the context of cultural-historical aspects.
Using examples of analysis and investigations, a chronological survey will present buildings and projects, internationally significant architects of the periods of classicism, historicism, Jugendstil, expressionism, the Third Reich, the post-war period and the Modern up to the current art scene. In this context, questions of style, the function of the building, building typology, tradition and innovation will be discussed.
