Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to gain an overview of the history of monument preservation and its theories. The lecture opens up a wide professional horizon which enables students to understand the requirements of historical preservation that are relevant today and to grasp the share expected from architects. Through the interaction of different perspectives, they recognise the significance and usefulness of the research area for scientific work and design. The lecture calls on students to evaluate their self-competence, assess their individual tendencies and interests and, in view of their future work in the profession, to sharpen their values, their ability to criticize and their special responsibility. Students acquire the ability to recognize similar problems and to place them in new contexts. The concrete illustration of the material enables the cultivation of visual memory and the linking of objects with relevant actors.
