Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to assess, on the basis of archival research and a building survey with a corresponding documentation, whether – and if so – in what way renovation measures are to be carried out in a Viennese house of "Gründerzeit" Period.

Subject of course

A feasibility study is carried out on the basis of a selected building object from the Viennese "Gründerzeit" Period. The study of the existing plans and the historical, architectural and structural analysis and description of the building form the basis for proposals for measures with regard to the general upgrading, repair and possible structural changes. In addition to conservation aspects, the study is intended to address the requirements of the building regulations and usability.
