After successful completion of the course, students are able to familiar with the history of Matera and it’s transformation in the last century due to the rise of pilgrimage and tourism. Thanks to various tours and an assignment with Space Caviar, they will understand the project of Capital of Culture and how it worked to change the way temporary dwellers of the city interact with its permanent residents.

Travel has to be organized independently!
Accommodation is paid for individually but will be organised by the school.
 
Programm:
18.3 arrive on own to Matera.
(flights from Vienna to Bari + bus from Bari / flight from Vienna to Naples + bus from Naples airport to Matera)
 
19.3
Tour with Space Caviar team - head of Matera Capital of Culture project.
Tour the town and the various sites involved in the project and hear about the process of working with the city and how it has shaped practices of tourism — between permanent and temporary dwellers in the city.
 
20.3
Visit the stone quarries around Matera and the dwelling caves around the city with Space Caviar. Learn about how the heritage of cave-dwelling shaped the tourist industry in the city.
 
21.3
Assignment on own in the city and review with Joseph Grima from Space Caviar.
