After successful completion of the course, students are able to work on complex design tasks both at the architectural and urban scale.

Students will identify areas of action in the urban context and develop appropriate architectural solutions while implementing independent research and gathering fundamental knowledge related to the topic.

GLACIS 2050 / CAMPUS AT SCHOTTENRING 

- The studio will be focusing on the area next to Schottenring, space around existing metro station and the embankment of Donaukanal.
- Schottenring: (“Scots’ Ring Road”) - station in a way that we see it today opened in 1980 as part of the inner ring (Ringstrasse) named after Schottenstift. 
- Although throughout the history this area was transformed many times, there always was a public space with green areas as you can see from the various historical maps dated from XV to XX century.
- Now the space we are going to be focused on consists of many different urban fabrics: there is the Schottenring road which turns into Franz-Josefs-Kai road, a few tramway tracks with the turn as well, there is Freda-Meissner-Blau Promenade with Schleusenpark and other activities. So the first questions we will try to answer during the semester will be: How could we reimagine the current situation around Schottenring? And how could we criticize those existing informal activities around the metro station?
- Going back to our proposal for the Glacis. Since our hypothesis is to reactivate the landscape potential and to rethink this together with the creation of the new public buildings, this studio proposes to create a Campus, a new educational building facing the river.
 - So, the additional questions we will try to answer during the semester will be: What kind of dialog between old and new could we create? What kind of impact would the new spatial organization have on the existing historic architecture?

Weekly reviews and collective presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
Design teams of 2-3 people are encouraged.
