After successful completion of the course, students are able to formulate an urban-spatial and socially relevant position in the form of an architectural design with a concrete program. Based on a critical analysis of existing spatial and social framework conditions, students are able to consider questions relevant to building construction and a resource-saving planning approach as an integrative component of the architectural concept after completing the design course.

ARNARA 2023+
The attention of this design work falls on the inconspicuous-looking, small Italian town of Arnara, located south of Rome in Lazio.
Like many places in Italy, it stands for emigration, ageing and urban sprawl. However, there are starting points that can be used to re-emphasise the importance of the former medieval fortification.
On the one hand, architectural interventions are to be used with a clear attitude to point out possibilities that can have an effect both internally and externally. On the other hand, the potential, the mood of the working place is to be used for this purpose.
The painter Arturo Ciacelli, who introduced himself to the public as a "futurist" as early as 1913 and whose birthday will be the 140th anniversary in 2023, is the intellectual starting point for turning towards the future.
The place is the studio and its inhabitants the curious studio visitors.
Discussion of the task and the teaching content in project meetings and a half-day workshop in Vienna. Design work during a 12-day stay in Arnara. Basic research for the design (urban planning, traffic, social and socio-cultural research and analysis of the site.
Independent work on a task (with sketches, working models, project studies, etc.), preparation of plans in all scales relevant to building construction and a spatial model. No group work!
