After successful completion of the course, students are able to develop an independent architectural position on public space in rural areas. Issues relevant to structural engineering are to be addressed as an integrative component of the architectural concept.
Potential Province
Public space is a fundamental framework condition for a functioning democratic society.
In rural areas, public space certainly had an important status: church and market places were places of encounter and exchange. Today, this seems to have gone mendacious; the appreciation of rural areas from the perspective of urban society is mostly limited to opportunities for simple recreation or affordable housing.
In order to make the "province" an attractive place to live again and thereby also help the necessary mobility turnaround, new forms of public space in the countryside are needed. What kind of programming do such places need and how can a reference to the specific context be established in order to create identity-forming spaces?
This is to be worked out within the framework of the design studio.
