After successful completion of the course, students are able to view the built environment with higher perceptual sensitivity to architectural aspects.
Students are going to prepare and analyse buildings on site and will perceive buildings in the context of their creation, their socio-economic, urban and / or structural conditions and to view them with a different, expanded perspective. In this way, a connection between theory and built reality can be established and architecture at the respective destination is better understood.
The so-called ‘Graz School’ is without a doubt the phenomenon in recent Austrian architectural history that has attracted the most international attention. Defined several times - and not always in the same way - by the Viennese critic Friedrich Achleitner and made famous by the British Peter Blundell Jones. Blundell Jones can, thanks to his book ‘Dialogues in Time. New Graz Architecture (1998)’, be described as the chronicler of the Graz School. The term “Grazer Schule” stands for many things - and is astonishingly vague. [translated from http://www.gat.st/news/was-bleibt-von-der-grazer-schule-0]
