Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to identify and analyze historical clay buildings and to propose their renovation or remodeling.

The knowledge required for this is communicated via excursions to earth constructions, through the accompanying LDS "Building Physics and Human Ecology of Earth Building" and "Sustainable Building ...". The LVA is constantly adapted to requirements and takes into account offers from the field.

Subject of course

Construction and structural engineering history, regional building typologies, further development of the Lehmbau cadastre in Austria as a public participatory project (PPGIS); Deepening conservation strategies and methods for rehabilitation of old buildings with a focus on earth building and development of opportunities for adaptation to current building standards; new strategies and concepts for building in existing buildings.

Additional lecturers at the course will be the experts DDr. Hubert Feiglstorfer and Roland Meingast (Nature&Clay Company).
