After successful completion of the course, students are able to transform abstract and complex design tasks in the field of architecture independently, systematically and with an original, contemporary design approach based on a precise architectural language.
In physics “The Space Between” can be described absolutely or relational. In traditional Japanese arts, “ma” refers to the space and energy between one thing and another. In Gestalt psychology the “Space Between” affects our recognition of positive and negative spaces. In social psychology “the Space Between” can be just right or too close. French composer Claude Debussy said, “Music is the space between the notes.” … In this design studio we investigate the phenomenon of the “Space Between” from a cross-disciplinary perspective with the goal to transform this inspiration into architectural design principles.
The first inspirational talk is by pianist Catalina Butcaru. Is there a possibility to use music and musical principles as source of inspiration for architectural design?
The second inspirational talk is by psychologist Jim Wise. What can we learn from nature and can we translate its principles into architectural design?
