After successful completion of the course, students are able to record a complex design task by analyzing and developing concepts and strategies as well as to prepare them in a plan and present and communicate them using presentation graphics and models.
Wiener Knoten : Urban Parasites
With the (re) construction of the underground lines U2 / U5, the public transport network in Vienna will be heavily densified. There is enormous potential for the fabric of the city around the existing and new subway nodes - a dense agglomeration of traffic and mobility, living and living + functions, work and leisure forms the corresponding playground.
The design deals with the question of how experimental structures can occupy urban spaces or residual spaces in this context - urban parasites that interact with their host. By docking, sitting on, burying or implanting - spatial organisms that develop their own logic and laws, but also have a symbiotic effect and act as new impulses on the existing structure. Following the principle of the influence of small intruders on large organisms, strategies and designs for new living spaces are to be generated.
On the basis of analyzes and reference projects, various locations and objects at existing and future Vienna subway junctions will be available and should form the basis of a broad spectrum of visions and individual target formulations - from additive, experimental living cells to temporary living spaces and new combinations of living and working.
The start of the design process begins with short assignments, basic analyzes, accompanying lectures and a site-excursion. The design is developed on the basis of plans and models of different scales, starting with the urban scale up to the detailed scale.

The design is presented in the form of presentation plans and models. A final digital documentation completes the task.
The course is generally to be completed as an individual work, whereby subtasks (e.g. research and analysis parts) can also be worked on in a team.
