After successful completion of the course, students are able to.understand the complexity of a design process. Students are able to operate in different levels in this processes in their own design project.
Situation:The already extensive Vienna subway network will be further expanded with the new U2 / U5 line. Each of these - new as well as existing - subway stations are nodes which, depending on their location, can activate and influence the environment in many different ways. The aim is to create places that generate attractive urban space through a mix of functions, but also provide contemporary living space. Task:In this design, hybrid is seen as a superimposition or fusion of large-volume structures with public functions and structures with residential use. The focus of this "Vienna Node Design" is on the building concept and the urban space it defines. To this end, the potential of the locations and building typologies will be examined in advance by means of analyses. For one of the nodes - which have very different characteristics - a functional mix obligatory for the location is to be proposed. The resulting objects are to be planned to a scale of 1:200. The urban planning concept can be developed in teams of two up to the volume training, the objects are executed in single work.
Based on the analysis of the topic (hybrid) and location (Vienna) first concepts are created. By sharpening the framework (realistic - vision), the basis for the design project is defined
