After successful completion of the course, students are able to develop their own architectural position and to take into account the constructional interrogation in building design as an integral part of their architectural concept.

Architectural design, structural engineering project development in all scales. Spatial representation of the building structure. Elaboration of a technical concept, the basics of plan representation and the gross dimensioning of the building service technology.

The marketplace represents a model in public space par excellence. The marketplace can be seen as the earliest form of publicity. As a classical space of consumption, it creates a feeling for authentic city life through the trade of goods and services. Therefore, the marketplace creates a striking spot, it is a fundamental feature of the city.

The 17 Viennese markets with around 700 market stands are visited weekly by around 360.000 people, nevertheless supermarkets and shopping centers are replacing the primary function of marketplaces as a local supplier. Growing social challenges as the rise of cultural diversity, heterogeneous lifestyles and every day routines are raising the question of relevance for the classic marketplace. Is it still a pure place of consumption or can the urban surrounding be enhanced through functions and architectural transformations ?

In the scope of  the design task there are 4 Viennese marketplaces: These four sites are offering sufficient social and urban potential, additional public functions should be developed, which are qualified for progress and transformation of the area. Questioned are accurate and gentle architectural interventions in a well selected urban scale. Due to sensitive transformations, extensions and hybridization of the existing setting new function and facilities should be sensible integrated. The fundamental attributes and properties of the marketplace should be maintained.

The functional requirement is at least one public space inside a thermal building skin for around 150-200 persons plus necessary extra units as well as corresponding usable outer space for variable performances.

Discussion of the course content in project reviews, accompanying lectures. Independent development of a design task. Elaboration of plans - in all scales relevant to the design of building construction and the elaboration of a spatial model.

BESPRECHUNGSTERMINE  werden beim Masterentwerfen 2x pro Woche angeboten (Mo vo, Fr vo). 1 Termin pro Woche kann von den angemeldeten Studierenden frei ausgewählt werden (Mo oder Fr), wobei die Auswahl auch wochenweise wechseln kann.
