Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand display strategies and their effect on the relationship between the viewer and the exhibit. They will be able to deal critically with basic questions of exhibition architecture and to understand the relationship between the display and space. Through scientific and methodological research into the relationship between curatorial approaches to the formulation of art spaces, they will be able to derive design principles for displaying art.

Subject of course

In the architecture of an exhibition, the display, which is developed by means of analysis and presentation of strategies of showing, occupies a central position. Historical examples will be traced back to basic concepts and will be typologically examined, critically reflected and further researched with regard to their significance for contemporary exhibition practice. The focus will be on the architecturally and spatially designed relationships between the exhibit and the display in practices of showing, visualising and contextualising objects.
