Aim of course

We are developing a utopian city for 2068 around the Vienna Airport City.

Climatic, technical, social and geopolitical developments are transforming the Vienna Airport City from an exclave serving Vienna into an autonomous city. The task is to create an idear for this extremely dense, tightly networked city, in a future in which the hubs and conurbations are now more closely connected and competing than ever before.

Subject of course

The futuristic city is concentrated in a diameter of 400m on the area of the Vienna Airport City. 100,000 people are intended to live and work here. New forms of living together pose major challenges for the city. Digitalisation, networking and communication are the subjects that will decisively influence our lives. Self-sufficiency, self-administration, self-organisation are the challenges that the 21st century poses for us. The dissolution of personal and local relationship networks together with the concentration of spatial and time-related networks is reorganising our spaces and our relationship networks.

Based on the analysis of dense spatial structures of the city and their elements, you will develop a spatial structure that organises work, living and culture in a very concentrated space. Using a building unit you will develop selected areas down to the smallest detail of a spatial area. The design work is structured in sections and passes through all scales. Accompanying the task, you will be supported in the “Graphic Design” lecture with the development of representations and layouts.
