Aim of course

The aim of the design is the development of sustainable and energy-efficient concepts with clay and straw for the current rural housing in the Weinviertel. As part of the impromptu design first traditional and contemporary clay architecture in Austria is examined. The subsequent design focuses on the development and integration of new technologies that can increase the acceptance of clay in the population and guarantee energy efficiency and seismic safety. From an ecological and settlement policy point of view, interventions to revitalize the villages in the Weinviertel, once built in loam and brick buildings, are relevant. This will be demonstrated using the example of a demo building for the museum village in Niedersulz. The village structure in the Weinviertel is to be explored on site, located and further developed for the regional cultural area. The designs are the basis for the construction of a new demo building in the Museumsdorf Niedersulz.

Subject of course

In the course of the planned excursion to the Weinviertel (compulsory), as well as to Iran (including earth building workshop, not compulsory), clay buildings are visited and documented for the design. This excursion will provide an insight into the building culture of the Weinviertel region and Iran, as well as a better understanding of clay building in general: LVA 270.093 Excursion to Building Construction and Design, 2017W, EX, 2 STD, 3 ETCS) The content of the design is the design of a demo mud house for the museum village Niedersulz. It should be shown that even today in the Weinviertel high-quality and energy-efficient houses made of clay can be built. The classical mud building and its traditions should be reflected and further developed for a current use - design and technical. The results of the design are presented and exhibited in the Museumsdorf Niedersulz, shared with the partner universities of the Vienna University of Technology visited during the excursion in Iran and the teaching construction site in Esfahk run by Iranian universities. In the meantime, a training construction site has been set up in Niedersulz, where work will resume in the summer semester. Kickoff and introduction will take place after the Lehmbauvorlesesung on October 10 at 16:00 in Seminarraum 6.
