Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to work on, complete and present projects on sustainability in the Team Service Learning project.

60 students. 4 universities. 2 semesters. 1 goal

In terms of learning outcomes, we expect good project management and a good achievement of the milestones that the students have considered for the individual projects and start-up ideas. The coaching sessions should serve as support and enable active, critical, goal-oriented, practical and independent learning. It is desirable that the students are able to draw conclusions from their practical problems and to design the solution approaches in such a way that logical comparisons and good lines of argument are evident.

Subject of course

As part of the two-semester "Sustainability Challenge" course, the summer semester will see the implementation of the project concepts developed in the winter semester. The focus should be on the teamwork for the respective project/start-up idea, with the process still being supported by the supervising lecturers. The goal remains the active design of work steps that contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The teaching design represents a form of accompanying teaching and mutual understanding. The coaching sessions, which take place several times a semester, have priority here. The students meet with their supervising teachers and discuss previous and next work steps, which are recorded in written minutes.

Teaching methods

Type of performance assessment and permitted aids
The learning design is based on the principle of transformative learning. The students continuously reflect on their project work and adjust the milestones and next steps accordingly. The interim results from the project work are explained monthly in so-called progress reports as group work. In addition, a project report/business plan and a final reflection, also as group work, are submitted at the end of the summer semester. For the final event on June 21, a video (service learning teams) or a pitch (start-up teams) and a project poster must be prepared.
Presence rules:
Attendance is mandatory for joint course units and any start-up camps that take place. In justified exceptional cases, however, a one-time excused absence of one academic unit (1 half-day) is possible upon presentation of an official confirmation. Since a complete absence from the reunion already represents exceeding the permitted number of missed units, it is necessary to provide substitute services in this case. These are agreed individually with the students.
Minimum requirements and standard of assessment
Services for an assessment:
The mandatory participation in the course units and (if they can take place) in the start-up camps as well as the commitment are used for the assessment. (45%)
The minutes from the coaching sessions and the monthly progress reports count for 25% of the grade.
In addition, the written submissions (project report, final reflection, abstract, project poster and business plan) as well as a self-made video or a presented pitch are also part of the grading basis. (30%)
For a positive grade, the overall assessment must be at least 50%.
