The aim of the design task is the development of sustainable and energy-efficient concepts with clay and straw for the current rural housing in the Weinviertel.

As part of the Stegreif design, traditional and contemporary clay architecture will be investigated in Austria. The subsequent design focuses on the development and integration of new techniques that increase the acceptance of earth building in the population as well as guarantee energy efficiency and earthquake resistance.

From an ecological and settlement policy perspective, interventions to revitalize the once-established clay and brick-built villages in the Weinviertel are relevant. This is shown by the example of a demo building for the museum village in Niedersulz. The village structure in the Weinviertel is to be explored, located and further developed as an example for the regional cultural area.

The designs are the basis for the erection of a demo building in the museum village Niedersulz.

In the course of the planned excursions into the Weinviertel (mandatory), as well as into the Iran (including clay building workshop; not mandatory), clay buildings are inspected and documented for the design. Within the scope of this excursion, insights into the building culture of the wine district and Iran, as well as a better understanding of building with clay, are given in general:

The design of a demo earth house for the museum village Niedersulz is the content of the design. It is to be shown that high-quality and energy-efficient houses made of clay can be built today in the Weinviertel. The classical clay building and its traditions are to be reflected and further developed for a current use - both design and technical.

The results of the design are presented and exhibited in the Museumsdorf Niedersulz, divided into the partner universities of the Vienna University of Technology and the Esfahk training center run by Iranian universities during the course of the excursion in Iran.

In the meantime, a training center has been set up in Niedersulz, where work is being continued in the summer semester.
