The goal of this design is to find new typologies for architectural design and structural design based on linear tensile elements. Tensegrities by Buckminster Fuller and Kenneth Snelson, as well as wet wool threads by Frei Otto, are well-known examples. How can a surface or a volume be created by means of a compacted arrangement, of linear elements? How can we define, generate, and vary space with density distribution? How can we generate new, light, impressive architecture?
Designing is based on an entanglement of analog and digital design approaches. The material sponsor Ehlmaier Friedrich GesmbH (verbal pledge) provides a wide range of products. 1: 1 models are to be developed which are tested with their own body weight."As far as I know, the Eiffel Tower in Paris was the most important first attempt to make a particularly tall building out of lines - the line has displaced the surface"Wassily Kandinsky "Point and Line to Surface", 1926
