Based on a model analysis of the current situation, it needs to discover hidden potentials and to develop a future concept for this central "open area". This space should be rethought with its boundaries and surfaces, determining and public relevant structures, by strengthen better orientation for new arrived ones as well as for neighbor community. Awakened desire appropriate this space.
How change this zone to a foyer of the market? Is it possible to create a charming hang out for residents and visitors? How can ruthlessness by the traffic be taken? Do proportions and size fit to the current space? What elements can modify a change of perspective and atmosphere? Which features apart from the flea market may define an active neighborhood?
The eponymous stream of our city, -Vienna - is and has always been an important route of transport, both a border and a meeting place. In the early 20th century most of the river valley was covered in the inner city. This overlap, an open urban space is now used as a flea market on Saturdays, and can be experienced in such way between Rüdigerhof and Naschmarkt. On the remaining 6 days of the week it is a parking lot, directionless end of bikers path "Wiental" and accessible entry by the subway stop Kettenbrückengasse. This exit becomes to non-local arriving passengers an irritating prelude to the Naschmarkt.
The flea market shows how this site with its peculiarity divided in two worlds and levels, can transform its atmosphere.
But anyway: what is about the canalized stream down there? Water in the city center!

Spatial, sociological and temporal layers of the terrain are analyzed with help of an expedition. Analysis and research results are presented and processed in a workshop. The design program starts with urban development concepts and gets designed up to selectively details. The "architectural instruments" are sketches just as work on three-dimensional model, and finally the proposed design is shown in the form of plans and a presentation model.
