Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

Professional and methodical knowledge:

  • Holistic view of the building - from the whole building to the details
  • Promoting an understanding of the basic principles and fundamental problems of  building construction (water, fire, light, air, egress)
  • Contextual examination and evaluation of details
  • Conveying professional competence with the ability to independently assess detail solutions regarding proper execution and knowledge of appropriate mpovements
  • Demonstration of multiple solutions for a given detailing situation
  • Introduction in the fundamental structure of standards and codes as a basis for independant and critical application
  • Conveying ressource-efficient planning and building to reduce technology dependency - sustainability not as a subsequent technical procedure but as an integral part of the design
  • Communicating current trends and developments, technology and materials

Cognitive and practical abilities:

  • Ability to recognize and understand fundamental problems of building construction as well as to systematical and forward-thinking planing of detailing solutions.
  • Strong relation to realization on the construction site  - knowledge of the processes and the participants in the planning and realization process. Promoting an understanding for the intertwined nature of the work of different crafs and the time schedule on site
  • Critical examination of the position of the architects profession - the architect as a specialist, a generalist or as an uncritical executor of investors' interests.

Social competence, competence to innovate and creativity:

  • Ability to develop innovative concepts following the accepted rules of engineering for building construction and materialisation
  • Interdisciplinary planning and realization process

A timely registration for the LVA is essential to get access to ZOOM and TUWEL!

Subject of course

Due to ongoing restructuring, this lecture is offered this semester in an adapted form based on the principle of "blended learning": lecture videos for self-study through e-learning provided on TUWEL cover the theoretical part of the lecture series and are provided with explanatory live components (zoom) with direct Combined contact options in which the subject of detailing and application is specifically addressed.

The learning content and the exam content remain the same as in previous years, only the didactic-organizational process is adapted to the given situation. More precise details are explained in the introductory lecture, where all potentially arising questions about the process and content are dealt with.

ZOOM links can always be accessed via TUWEL of the LVA

Additional information

"Detail discussions" are now integrated into the lecture schedule in an expanded form and no longer take place separately before the exams!

A timely registration for the LVA is essential to get access to ZOOM and TUWEL!

Many of the worked out exam quetions that that are currently circulating on the Internet are unfortunately incomplete, misleading or wrong - including those with the designation "confirmed by the lecturer". They are often in direct contradiction to the examples explained in detail in the course. In the course of the course, we specifically point out the incorrect details known to us and also explain why they are incorrect. We therefore recommend that when using documents that have been prepared by third parties (e.g. other students), a comparison with those provided in the course Making examples.
