The goal is the comprehension of design principles and the implementation of possible strategies in sustainable planning of building envelopes. In the workshop we analyze the facades of a building on site and develop sustainable planning approaches. The students will demonstrate in their work that they understood interrelationships between structure, construction, material, form and impact on exterior and interior space, demands and implementation . . . of their workshop-project.
Historically, the shell of a building served as a means for survival and protection and offered improved quality of life. The shell, being an active membrane between inside and outside not only facilitates regulated supply of air and light but also operates as a visual filter, embedded in a socio cultural context. With the help of general design principles and examples, discussions will focus on how sustainable approaches in building envelopes can be implemented.
