After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

- do research about transmission of architecture for non architects and to present the it visually.

- develop research questions and conduct architectural research

- prepare and to do workshops, excursions and/or input-lectures on architecture for pupils.

- understand the perception of architectural space of users, to get pupils interested in architecture and to awake enthusiasm for new educational spaces.

Subject of course

Although architecture and/or building culture is a cross-cutting subject whose broad themes could be addressed in many school subjects, there are few teachers who make a connection to the built reality.

Few recognize the potential of addressing the built environment as a practical and vivid reference for students based on their own experience.

Why is it that teachers in schools largely exclude the topic of architecture? How can teachers be made enthusiastic about the subject of architecture so that they naturally incorporate building culture issues into their lessons? What kind of understanding of architecture should teachers have in order to pass on the topic to students?

There are enough well-prepared documents for teaching units, but also documentations of mediation units with children and young people, which have been prepared by architects and mediators and have often been tested in extracurricular contexts - that is probably not the problem.

In this course, existing concepts of architectural mediation will be analyzed and systematized in order to develop a toolbox of methods for a playful engagement with space that can be used by teachers and students alike. Mediation units with teachers and students will be carried out and evaluated.
