After successful completion of the course, students are able to effect both the planing of the design and of details when creating new functions and adaptive re-use programmes for protected monuments.

Subject of course

The aims of the design course concentrate on the adaptive re-use of listed monuments, especially of industrial monuments like historic factory buildings, workshops, industrial plants or habitations of the working class.

Four years ago our design course dealt with the adaptive re-use of the abandoned factory area of Independenta, which is situated immediatly in front of the medieval defense structures of Hermannstadt / Sibiu. In the summer term we will continue our studies in this very significant part of town. We will try to find out new functions for the about a hunderd years old cloth factory Libertatea east of Independenta and we should create new urban structures by designing the old Zibin market.
