After successful completion of the course, students are able to effect both the planing of the design and of details when creating new functions and adaptive re-use programmes for protected monuments.
The aims of the design course concentrate on the adaptive re-use of listed monuments, especially of industrial monuments like historic factory buildings, workshops, industrial plants or habitations of the working class.
The design course offered in the winter term will deal with devastated "death areas" along the riverside of the Donaukanal which are resulting from functional change and loss of former importance. Based on historical research belonging to the function of the canal as well as on analysis of the urban structures we will investigate abandonend areas following the objective on planing and creating a recreation aerea in the very heart of Vienna.
