After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand functional principles of historic building systems and constructional details and recognize qualities in these iteratively evolved systems.
The lecture series historic.smart aims to provide students with an introduction into exceptional functional principles of historic buildings. Through enabling of physical precepts and specific material properties shown examples prove to be highly efficient. As antithesis to software-controlled building equipment and composite Materials found in current constructions, the elegance of simplicity as well as possibilities and limitations of such systems are shown to encourage a critical discourse about technophile solutions in today's architecture.
