Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to effect both the planing of the design and of details when creating new functions and adaptive re-use programmes for protected monuments.

Subject of course

The aims of the design course concentrate on the adaptive re-use of listed monuments, especially of industrial monuments like historic factory buildings, workshops, industrial plants or habitations of the working class.

"Heft-ig" will deal with the historical smelting works at Heft in Carinthia which have been superstructured by architect Günther Domenig on behalf of the regional exhibition in 1995.

Teaching methods

Historical analysis, should the occasion arise the research of historical building structures, sketch and design planing, single work als well as team work, discussion meetings, presentation
