In 2015 the UN has established a master plan for sustainable development with the "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)".
All 193 member states of the United Nations undertake to work towards implementing Agenda 2030 with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at national, regional and international level by 2030.
The implementation of the goals will enable dynamic economic development within ecological boundaries. Implementation will drastically reduce the causes of global poverty and ensure decent living conditions throughout the world.
The SDGs represent an urgent need for action for all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognise that ending poverty and other inequalities must go hand in hand with strategies to improve health and education, reduce inequality and boost economic growth - all while combating climate change and preserving our oceans and forests.
Austria has also committed itself to implement the SDGs by 2030. But the new development agenda is ambitious and little known among the population.
The aim of this course is to deal with the individual SDGs and to discuss the possibilities for their implementation in individual areas.
Since 2018 the TU Vienna is involved in the project SDG Internship Programme .
In cooperation with the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, the Vienna University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, the University of Vienna - Institute for International Development and the Vienna University of Technology in cooperation with the development cooperation organisation HORIZONT3000, the SDG Internship Programme organises high-quality internships in the SDG context in developing countries for particularly committed Austrian students.
In the summer of 2019, the first interns will be in action. They will share their experiences in lectures in the winter semester 2019/2020 with interested students of all participating universities in order to offer the opportunity to get to know the SDGs and to discuss how the implementation in different disciplines would be possible across universities.
