Indonesia is a country with a diverse architectural tradition that is still very much alive today. Outstanding features of its architecture are its adaptation to climatic conditions and the challenges posed by the constant threat of natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and heavy rainfall.
In interdisciplinary research projects, scientists of the Vienna University of Technology have been working on various topics in the Indonesian archipelago in cooperation with representatives of other universities and institutions. These intensive collaborations serve as a basis for joint projects that go beyond architecture and deal with the conservation of cultural heritage.
In this semester, different aspects of Indonesian culture will be presented in cooperation with 5 Indonesian universities.
Universitas Andalas, Padang
Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta
Universitas Udayana, Denpasar
Insitut Seni Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta
Universitas Trisakti, Jakarta
The lectures serve as a basis for discussions on the interrelation between architecture and culture. In interdisciplinary and international groups individual aspects will be analysed in detail and summarised in a scientific paper.
