THE COURSE IS PART OF THE SONDERMODUL "APPROACHES TO ARCHITECTURE IN INDONESIA"
The aim of this course is to analyse and study cultural spaces in different countries in cooperation with international partners. Topics are architectonic and spatial uses in urban and rural areas against the background of different cultural identities.
Indonesia is rich on diverse architectural traditions, that are still very much alive today. Outstanding features of the architecture are its adaptation to climatic conditions and the challenges posed by the constant threat of natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and heavy rains. In interdisciplinary research projects, scientists from TU Wien in cooperation with representatives of other universities and institutions have dealt with various topics in the Indonesian archipelago. Impulse lectures introduce into the topics of these projects provide an insight into the architecture, culture and social structures in Indonesia.
The lectures serve as a basis for discussions on the future of Indonesian architecture and thus as a basis for seminar papers that are to be compiled about one of the topics.
