At the Lido in Venice: is sustainable tourism possible?
What is a appropriate way of dealing with our cultural heritage? Can we think of new functions for old buildings or cultural landscapes in order to protect traditional ressources in a sustainable way? What is the essence of our cultural heritage- isn't it changing and transforming all the time instead of being stable and of lasting value? The design studio fosters a critical analyses of various concept of cultural heritage in order to find new ways of rethinking an dre-evaluating teh cultural heritage. The goal is to develop a responsible and yet innvative way to deal with our cultural heritage.
This semester the studio will focus on designing tourist spaces in a former hospital building at the Lido in Venice. We will first take a look at various restrictions but also qualities and new options that the spaces provide. The students will develop new visons and create new sustainable concepts for the old spaces.
An excursion to venice will be offered. It is recommended but not required to join the excursion.
