construction of a myth- wooden architecture in Austria and the nordic countries. Scandinavian countries but also Austria likens to present themselves as experts when it comes to wooden architecture. they point out their long tradition in wooden constructions but they also like to present contemporayray, innovative and challenging prjects. In this seminar we want to analyze the myth behind this promotion of wooden architecture and its impact on teh architectural discourse. Together with teh nordic embassies we want to create a concept for an exhibition about this myth.
We will take a look at the development of wooden architecture in the nordic countries and Austria- where did the key ideas come from, which myths were developed to promote national identities, and what is the current situation like?
We will examine changing ideals in architecture in relation to wooden constructions, changing concepts and marketing concepts. Besides research concerning individual buildings (traditional and contemporary) we will take a look at the changing discourse and the creation of various myths around wooden architecture. Our goal is to develop an exhibition concept in cooperation with the Nordic embassies.
