ARCHITECTURE and DEVELOPMENT - Building in a Globalised World
It is the aim of the lecture to view architecture under global perspectives and to generate interconnectivities on a holistic level. The 21st century is introducing a new phase of globalism and possible responses in architecture are discussed controversially. The following key questions will be examined: What are the future challenges of an architecture which is cross-linked throughout the world? Adequate living space as a human right? What are the challenges of building in economically disadvantaged regions? Does architecture bear social and cultural responsibility? Do other cultures have architectural answers that we don¿t have or do they ask architectural questions, we have not even thought about?
The lecture series consists of regular lectures combined with guest lectures. Whereas the regular lectures concentrate on the theoretical background and the terminology, the guest lectures give insight into practical field work and open the forum for discussions. Guest lecturers will be anthropologists, development planners and architects who plan and build in so-called ¿developing countries¿.
