Fundamentals of inventory, legal framework, integration of monument preservation in current interdisciplinary requirements (sustainability / resources, urban development, infrastructure, spatial planning, etc.), organisation and processes, media competence, argumentation security and mediation (reports and expert opinions for the public and decision makers).
In the summer semester 2020, the following topic will be covered in the exercise Denkmalpflege / Denkmalkunde II:
In the focus of criticism - the expert report on monument preservation
The preservation of historical monuments can rely on a solid set of methodological tools to fulfil its task. As a rule, the legal framework is also clear. Nevertheless, contradictory opinions may arise within the profession and among the wider public about planned monument preservation measures. In such stalemate situations, independent expert opinions are required which, on the basis of a reliable analysis of the problem, take a clear, comprehensible and credible position so that sustainable decisions can be made. Internationally recognised basic and guiding principles of monument conservation are groundbreaking in this respect.
The preparation of expert opinions is therefore a highly responsible task which, beyond political considerations, is solely committed to the subject matter of the expert opinion and demands undisputed integrity and independence from the authors.
The aim of the exercise is, based on the findings of the seminar Denkmalkunde I (251.706), to become acquainted with different expert opinions and their foundations. The focus is on questions of structure, content, argumentation and conclusions. Based on a specific question, students are to prepare a concrete expert opinion in group work.
