Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the definition of Preservation Areas in the built historic context. Sudents have developed the knowloedge of new methods and criteria for the Identification, Management and Development of Preservation Areas on the example of existing protected areas in Vienna 

Subject of course

Protected areas are not only a tool of urban planning, which allows it to control structural needs, but also directly refers to preservation goals. Protected areas are usually meant to preserve and develop the historic city. Based on a selection of specific examples of protected areas in Vienna, we want to improve the quality of buildings and ensembles located in protected areas, to name and to analyze them, despite potential conflicts and changing needs.

Teaching methods

Three step mehtod: "Baualtersplan", characteristic Elements in the decoration of the fassades, Ensemble Visualization.
