Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to  describe and understand works of art after having gained an overview of Vienna's museums and collections. The goal is the training of artistic perception.

Subject of course

 

In 8 or 9 separate classes lasting approx. 2 hours, the students are given an insight into the wealth of the Viennese collections. On the basis of the direct confrontation with the original works of art, the students are given an overview from Egyptian and ancient art up to the Modern. Account is also taken of special exhibitions. The history of the specific museum and collection are addressed, as well as the forms of presentation and the museum and exhibition architecture.

Teaching methods

Discussion before originals, stimulation to see and describe works of art independently. Encourage discussion and ask and formulate questions.
