After successful completion of the course, students are able to autonomous archive-research in the academic fields of architectural as well as art historic history. They have experienced the basics of responsible and sustainable work within archives in theory as well as practice and know about scientific inventory.
The students do gain first practical experience in archive-work on current task within real research projects of the field of experience. They will sort, document, photograph and inventory so far unknown or untouched archive material of architects or historical plans. Accompanying introductory lectures do give the students a scientific and theoretical background for their practical work.
The students do work in small teams under instruction and supervision of advanced archive people and librarians in various archives of partner institutions like the architectural museum of Vienna, the Austrian Federal Archive and several city- and province archives.
Besides the practical work in site (looking-at, sorting, scanning, photography) the students have to deliver an inventory and a small text description of the plans and other archive material. On base of the worked through material from the archives during the next semester a seminary- or bachelor thesis can be written.
