After successful completion of the course, students are able to to critically evaluate the processes involved in the production and use of both contemporary and historic building materials. Tools for identifying and preventing damage to building materials will be taught, as well as the resulting opportunities for design and implementation using innovative, yet historically inspired materials. Learning from the Past!
A comparison of modern and historic building materials in terms of energy efficiency:
The focus will be on building materials that show potential in the areas of CO₂ and disposal neutrality, regional availability/short transport routes, natural aggregates (inorganic and especially organic!), ecological insulation materials, recyclability, etc.
