After successful completion of the course, students are able to engage in research and design with post-war modern administrative buildings, because every design work in the existing building requires specific knowledge and requires strategies appropriate to the object.
The excursion offers students the opportunity to deal with the diverse requirements that must be met when maintaining, repairing and carefully developing an existing building.
Field trip
The excursion (April 8-12, 2024, in Vienna) is planned as an independent course.
The students develop general principles for dealing with post-war modern administration and office buildings as well as buildings using prefabricated element construction.
This includes dealing with the history of Vienna's urban development, the construction methods and building materials of post-war modernism, topics such as circular building, monument preservation and preservation processes. In addition, conversations with and input from local actors offer a more in-depth discussion.
Numerous renovated, repurposed and/or listed objects of post-war modernism will be visited. It is about dealing with the typical characteristics of these buildings and their preservation in transformation projects.
Students must organize and pay transport costs on public transport themselves. A fee of €50 is charged for property tours.
